Which Rascal House Is Closest to Me? All 5 Cleveland Locations Compared

Cheese slices

There are five Rascal House locations in Greater Cleveland, and the closest one is not always the right one. If it is 1 AM on a Sunday, four of the five are already closed. If you are booking catering for a Tuesday, any of them works. If you are on the east side, three are within five miles of each other.

Rascal House has been Cleveland’s hometown pizza shop since 1980, and all five kitchens run the same full menu: pizza, subs, wings, salads, burgers, wraps, and pasta. What changes between them is location, hours, and which neighborhood each one was built to serve. Here is the full comparison.

Three of the five sit on Euclid Avenue, which is not a coincidence. Euclid Avenue runs from Public Square through the Campus District, past University Circle, and out to the city of Euclid on the lakefront. It is the spine of the east side, and Rascal House grew along it.

Which Rascal House is closest to me?

Start with which side of town you are on, since the five split into three clusters.

Downtown and the Campus District. Downtown Cleveland at 1836 Euclid Avenue. It covers the central business district, Public Square, the Warehouse District, East 4th Street, Cleveland State, Playhouse Square, and the hotels.

The east side institutional corridor. University Circle at 11316 Euclid Avenue for Case Western, the Cleveland Clinic, University Hospitals, Severance, the museums, and Little Italy. University Heights at 2255 Warrensville Center Road for John Carroll and the eastern suburbs. These two are the closest pair of any Rascal House locations, under four miles apart.

The outer suburbs. Euclid at 21050 Euclid Avenue for the lakefront communities and the neighborhoods around Cleveland Clinic Euclid Hospital. Maple Heights at 5220 Northfield Road for the southeast suburbs around Southgate.

Roughly speaking, Downtown to University Circle is about four miles. University Circle to University Heights is under four. University Heights to Euclid is about five. Maple Heights sits farthest from the rest, roughly ten miles from Downtown and from Euclid.

That clustering matters if your first choice is closed. University Circle, University Heights, and Euclid form a tight triangle on the east side, so if one is shut, another is usually within five miles. Maple Heights is the outlier with no close neighbor, and Downtown is its own island on the west end of the Euclid Avenue run.

Which Rascal House is open the latest?

Downtown Cleveland, and it is not close on Sundays.

The downtown flagship runs until 2:30 AM seven nights a week. University Circle matches that Monday through Saturday, then pulls back to 1:30 AM on Sunday. Everything else closes earlier.

The two things that catch people out

Maple Heights on Sunday closes at 10:00 PM. That is four and a half hours before Downtown and the earliest close of any Rascal House on any night. If you order there at 1 AM on a Saturday out of habit, Sunday is a completely different store.

Euclid closes at midnight on weeknights, not 1:00 AM. The 1:00 AM close is Friday and Saturday only.

Real last call is 30 minutes earlier

Every posted close time is a kitchen close, not an order deadline. The final half hour is prep and delivery. Give any location 30 minutes before its posted close, which means about 2:00 AM downtown, 2:00 AM at University Circle most nights, and 9:30 PM at Maple Heights on a Sunday.

Which Rascal House opens the earliest?

Downtown Cleveland and Maple Heights both open at 9:00 AM, which makes them the two options for an early order. Downtown holds that Monday through Friday and opens at 10:30 AM on weekends. Maple Heights runs 9:00 AM Monday through Saturday and 10:00 AM on Sunday.

University Circle opens at 10:00 AM every day. Euclid is the latest opener at 10:30 AM.

For an office lunch that needs to arrive before noon, Downtown and Maple Heights give you the most runway.

Do all five locations have the same menu?

Yes. Every Rascal House runs the full board: hand-tossed pizza, oven-baked subs, wraps, fresh-tossed salads, wings, burgers, pasta, sides, and party trays for catering.

That means the Rascal House Deluxe, the pie the menu calls everyone’s favorite, is available at all five. So are Crispy Boneless Wings, the Baked Meatball Sub, the Rascal Burger, the Greek Salad, and Build Your Own in Medium, Large, and BellyBuster.

Two items carry a caveat. The Giant Fish Sandwich and Jumbo Warm Pretzel Sticks are both listed as available at select locations, so call ahead if you are planning around either one.

Beyond that, the menu does not shrink late at night at any location. Whatever is on the board at noon is on the board at close.

Vegetarian options travel across all five too. Veggie Supreme, White Pizza, and Pizza ala Greco are meatless as built, the Veggie Wrap is on whole wheat flatbread, and the Greek, Caesar, and Tossed Garden salads are on every menu. Build Your Own carries nine vegetable toppings at every location, along with pure beef pepperoni and pure beef topping for anyone who does not eat pork.

Which location should I use for catering?

Any of them, but use the one closest to where the food is going, and say the location name when you call.

All five handle casual catering: boxed lunches, party-size pizzas, wing trays, salads, and full spreads for groups of 10 to 200. Box lunches come in Traditional Sub, Wrap, Salad, and Pizza Bonanza, each with chips, a freshly baked cookie, napkin, and condiments included. The Pizza Bonanza Box must be ordered in increments of six.

Lead time is best at 24 hours across the board, and the Vegetable Tray and Dip specifically requires 24 hours notice. Smaller orders often go out same-day if the kitchen has room.

The practical tip: when you call, name the location. Saying “Maple Heights” or “University Circle” routes the order to the right kitchen instead of sending it across town.

Which Rascal House fits which situation?

Late night after a game or a show. Downtown Cleveland. It is the only one holding 2:30 AM every night, and it covers the FieldHouse, Progressive Field, Playhouse Square, and the hotels.

A hospital shift change. Downtown or University Circle. University Circle sits two blocks from University Hospitals and under a mile from the Cleveland Clinic main campus, with a 2:30 AM kitchen six nights a week.

Feeding students. Downtown for Cleveland State, University Circle for Case Western, University Heights for John Carroll. All three were built next to campuses, which is the whole origin of the brand.

A family dinner in the suburbs. Euclid or Maple Heights, depending on which side of town you are on. Euclid covers the lakefront communities, Maple Heights covers the southeast.

An early office lunch. Downtown or Maple Heights, both open at 9:00 AM.

A Sunday night order. Downtown at 2:30 AM, or University Circle at 1:30 AM. Maple Heights is closed by 10:00 PM.

A group that cannot agree on food. Any of the five. This is the whole point of the menu, and it does not change by location. One ticket covers a pizza, a wing order, a sub, and a salad from the same kitchen at the same time.

Why there are five and why they keep different hours

Rascal House opened in 1980 when Mike and Fouly Frangos turned a passion for food and service into a downtown Cleveland fast-food restaurant unlike any other. The first store sat directly across from Cleveland State University, built around what a campus needs: quick, tasty, affordable food at the hours students actually keep.

It worked immediately. By 1982, Cleveland State students had voted Rascal House the best off-campus eatery. Rascal House has also been recognized as “Cleveland’s Best Pizza” by the Cleveland Plain Dealer.

The hours differences across the five are not arbitrary. They track what each neighborhood does after dark.

Downtown and University Circle sit next to campuses and hospitals that never fully close, so their kitchens run to 2:30 AM. Maple Heights and Euclid serve residential suburbs where demand drops off earlier, so they close earlier. University Heights sits between the two patterns.

Forty-five years on, the menu is identical at all five and the hometown standard has not moved. Quality food, fast service, fair prices, and a menu wide enough that nobody at the table has to compromise.
