It’s International Picnic Day (or as I like to call It, The Superdelicious Start of Picnic Season)

The very first day of picnic season is like Opening Day for me. That’s because Rascal House has 5 different Box Lunches and each one is like hitting a game-winning home run. Sure, you can get them throughout the year and eat them wherever you want. I just had one yesterday while standing in line at the BMV. But nothing beats breaking out the plaid blanket and heading to the park with a bunch of box lunches in the back seat of my little red car. I focus on the road ahead, occasionally glancing at them in my rearview mirror. Look at Pizza Bonanza, all warm and snug in that box of his. Make that piping hot, as in a traditional square-cut piping hot pizza with cheese and any 1 topping I choose. Good thing these box lunches come with condiments, kettle chips, fruit candy and a jumbo chocolate chip cookie in case I burn the roof of my mouth. By the way, what’s taking so long? I left Rascal House three minutes ago! Relax, Rascal M. No need to yell at the cars in front of you. I look back at my box lunches again. There’s the Traditional I know and love! A fresh-made sub with crisp lettuce, sliced tomato and my choice of oven-roasted turkey breast, roast beef, smoked ham, Italian meat or veggie. My friends at Rascal House put it on a hearth baked roll and top it with cheese. Too bad it doesn’t come with a rocket ship so I can get to the picnic sooner. I’m looking at you too, Wrap Box Lunch. You and your whole wheat flatbread filled with smoked turkey breast, or marinated char-grilled chicken strips, or Italian deli meat. Do you think the other box lunches will get mad if I eat you before we get there? I know, I know, patience is a virtue. But so is your friend over there, the Club Croissant, loaded with so much goodness it’s a wonder he’s not a saint. Smoked ham, oven-roasted turkey breast, genoa salami, provolone cheese, lettuce and tomato on a butter croissant. Sounds like a speeding ticket just waiting to happen. No, Rascal M! Get to your picnic in one piece. When you get there, start with the Salad Box Lunch. You usually get the Tossed, Caesar or Chef. But today you went with Greek because you have a Herculean appetite. Leafy green lettuce, tomatoes, cucumbers, red onions, olives, Feta cheese, olive oil. Oh man, I’m losing it. Quick, make like Hermes and take that short cut ahead!
